Myrtle Terrace

The original owner, Captain Thomas P. Leathers, was born in Kentucky in 1816 and began his river career on the Yazoo River in 1836. John Hunter, Mayor of Natchez in 1862 lived in the home when the naval forces of the Union demanded the surrender of the City. In an elegant short message, Hunter surrendered the city, thus preserving many historic homes in Natchez.

  • The beautiful Empire and Victorian furnishings in the home are appropriate for the early life of Myrtle Terrace.
  • Captain Thomas achieved great financial success and built many steamboats. Among them, seven were named “Natchez”.
  • A carriage house, built in the 1850s, is located behind the home and is now used as an Airbnb.
